Schiphol Airport is 17 km from Amsterdam. After picking up your luggage, head towards Schiphol Plaza (part of the airport with shops and restaurants) and follow the signs to find trains, buses or taxis, and choose the type of transport of your choice to get to the city center.

Inside the airport, there is a train station that takes you to Amsterdam Central Station without stopping. It is the fastest and most convenient form of transportation to the city center. Trains from Amsterdam airport depart from platforms 1 and 2, 24 hours a day, every day of the week.

There are approximately 10 departures to Amsterdam per hour, between 6:00 am and 1:00 am. At dawn, trains run hourly.

The trip takes approximately 20 minutes and costs around 5 euros. You can buy your ticket at one of the several machines scattered outside Schiphol Plaza. Ticket vending machines are yellow and have several language options. Payment is made with credit and debit cards. It is not possible to buy the ticket inside the trains.

Important information: Don’t forget to validate your ticket on the sensors located at the entrance to the station. After validating, continue with your ticket in hand, because inside the trains company employees will ask you to present your ticket to check if the validation has been done. If you do not present your ticket or if the employee finds that the validation has not been carried out, you can receive a very high fine, 95 euros, in addition to paying the ticket price. So stay tuned and avoid hassles during your trip.

A cheap and comfortable option is the Connexxion bus, which runs from the airport to the center of Amsterdam in approximately 30 minutes. The ticket costs 6.5 euros and can be purchased directly on the bus, with the driver. The bus number is 397, in red. The bus stop is on platforms B9 and B11, but there may be changes. Check the Connexxion company website to confirm the information. The platforms are in front of the airport exit.

The bus makes four stops in the expanded center of Amsterdam: Museumplein, Rijksmuseum, Leidseplein and Elandsgracht. Have with you beforehand which of these four stops is closest to your hotel, to know exactly where to get off. The bus line runs between 5 am and midnight.
